Midlands athlete wins national gold medal in 10-mile race

The 2025 Biofreeze Athletics Ireland Race Series concluded last Sunday with the Irish Runner 10 Mile, and Athlone resident Eileen Kenny secured a national title by taking gold in the over-75 category.

The Tullamore Harriers athlete recorded a time of 1.20.28, in what is the latest in a lengthy list of achievements for the dedicated Eileen.

In total, Tullamore Harriers AC was represented by four athletes in the event, all of whom delivered fine performances. Jamie Malone had a brilliant run, finishing 66th overall with an impressive time of 1:01:09.

Rita Daly followed with a strong performance, clocking 1:15:46, and Una Mullen, competing in the same category as Rita, crossed the line in 1:22:13. Rita was 4th in the O55 age group and Una was 11th.

Held once again in the surrounds of the Phoenix Park, the event drew nearly 2,000 competitors and served as the National 10-Mile Championships.

Ryan Creech (Leevale AC) and Megan Ryan (Dundrum South Dublin AC) claimed the senior titles, crossing the finish line in 49:54 and 57:56 respectively.
