New Edenderry Fianna Fáil office officially opened

A large crowd gathered in Edenderry on Friday evening last, July 18, for the official opening of the new Fianna Fáil constituency office at Granary Court.

The new office, jointly established by Barry Cowen MEP, Tony McCormack TD, and Councillor Claire Murray, will serve as a dedicated base for constituents in Edenderry and the wider North Offaly area.

The event was officially opened by former Taoiseach Brian Cowen, who spoke passionately about the need for accessible public representation.

“It’s an important service for the community to have access to their politicians,” he said. He praised the ongoing efforts of Tony, Barry, and Claire, and paid special tribute to Ger Connolly for the great work he did for the area over many years.

The opening was also attended by former Laois-Offaly TD John Moloney, Westmeath Senator Aidan Davitt, and local councillors Declan Harvey and Oliver Bryant, along with family members, party supporters, and community representatives.

In his remarks, Barry Cowen MEP said: “North Offaly has a proud tradition of political engagement and community spirit. This office is about ensuring that local people have easy access to representation and support. It strengthens our presence and reinforces our commitment to the people of this area.”

Deputy Tony McCormack highlighted Edenderry’s importance as a regional hub. “Edenderry is one of the fastest-growing towns in the Midlands," he said.

"With that growth comes the need for stronger political infrastructure. This office is a practical step in making ourselves more accessible and effective in serving local needs.”

Cllr Claire Murray said the new office will be an open, welcoming space for everyone in the community:

“It’s vital that Edenderry and North Offaly have local representation that’s approachable and responsive. We want people to know this is their space—a place to be heard and supported.”

The new office is now open to the public and will serve as a central point for anyone seeking support, advice, or assistance on local and national issues.
