Ballinamere/Durrow and Tullamore ladies show neighbourly spirit
The true spirit of Gaelic games was on display as the Tullamore and Ballinamere/Durrow 'Gaelic for Mothers and Others' teams met for a lively challenge match at a pristine Ballinamere GAA venue on July 23rd.
On a balmy, dry evening, the pitch was buzzing with energy and laughter, as the two Offaly clubs proved that love of the game truly knows no age limit.
Tullamore coach Dave Kavanagh (a Kildare man) and his Ballinamere/Durrow counterpart Michelle Crowley (a proud Donegal woman) rallied their teams (composed of a mixture of non-experienced and experienced players) to show cohesion and a range of football skills.
There were plenty of scores (though the target was missed a few times as well!), perceptive passes and interceptions in a flowing game that was expertly refereed by Shauna Slattery, who ensured that fair play and enjoyment was had by all. Tullamore G4M&O thanks Ballinamere/Durrow G4M&O for hosting a great match and for all the supporters who attended.
Gaelic for Mothers and Others is a fantastic initiative, brought in by the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA), in order to introduce women to Gaelic football in a fun, non-competitive and social environment. And this recent encounter between these two local sides was a perfect testament to its success.
If you would like to join Tullamore G4M&O or Ballinamere/Durrow G4M&O for a bit of social fun and activity, both clubs would be delighted to hear from you. All new members are welcome - no GAA experience or fitness levels necessary and there is no age limit!
