Clara to bid fond farewell to 'Bog Bothy' this evening
Having stood guard over Clara Bog for the past few weeks, Clara will bid a fond farewell to the distinctive Bog Bothy with a special ceremony this evening (Tuesday, July 29), to which members of the public are warmly invited.
The event, which is being organised by Clara Heritage Society, will take place at the Bog Bothy in Erry Hills, overlooking Clara Bog, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
The flash of yellow which adorns the Bog Bothy has been a welcome sight in Clara ever since the bothy was installed as part of the Bog Trotters Festival, reminding locals of the bright yellow gorse in full bloom along the hills of Erry.
The Bog Bothy continues on its journey around Ireland with its next stop after Clara being Girley Bog in county Meath where it is due to be installed in preparation for Heritage Week. It will remain on Girley Bog for the month of August.
The Bog Bothy project is jointly organised by the Irish Architecture Foundation & 12th Fields Architects and is funded by Creative Ireland. The project is focused on creating new architectural interventions in Ireland's peatlands, particularly in the context of transitioning away from peat harvesting. It involves building bothy-style shelters, hosting public programs, and fostering community engagement around the evolving relationship with peatlands
Light refreshments will be served as part of this evening's ceremony in Clara to bid farewell to the Bog Bothy, and Clara Heritage Society is appealing to local people to come along and enjoy the event.
