Offaly Gardai bid farewell to retiring Birr Sergeant

Laois/Offaly Gardai have bid a fond farell to Birr-based Sergeant Carlo Griffin as he retired this week after 30 years of service in the force.

A tribute shared by An Garda Siochana noted that, "standing at 6ft 7, Carlo was never one to go unnoticed" but it was his "sharp Limerick wit, quiet decency, and willingness to help others" that truly made him stand out.

"Carlo served in a number of key postings during his career, including Harcourt Terrace, Garda Headquarters, Templemore, Portlaoise, Edenderry, and most recently Birr," said the retirement tribute.

"In each, he brought a calm, steady approach and was a valued colleague to many.

"A long-time supporter of the International Police Association, he gave his time generously, often behind the scenes, offering advice or support to fellow Gardaí.

"His presence will be missed — on the corridors, at briefings, and on the job — and we wish him good health, happiness, and plenty of well-earned relaxation in the years ahead.

"Go n-éirí an bóthar leat, Carlo."
