Council invites Offaly residents to 'upcycle' mattresses with three collection days planned
Offaly County Council, in conjunction with Cirtex and Oxigen Environmental, is hosting free mattress collection days at three civic amenity centres in the county next month.
The collection days will be held at Birr Civic Amenity Site (R42 AD82) on Saturday, September 6; at Edenderry Civic Amenity Site (R45 FR63) on Saturday, September 13; and at the Derryclure Civic Amenity Site (R35 FT53) on Saturday, September 20.
The collections will take place at the designated site between 10am and 2pm on the date mentioned.
Announcing the free mattress collections, Offaly County Council said: "Your mattress will be upcycled and become non-woven wool, fiber and foam mix products, including thermal and acoustic insulation, floor underlay and furniture cushioning for multiple applications.
"Please be proud to upcycle your mattress. You are helping the environment by reducing your carbon footprint."
The council added there were certain conditions that had to be met, including a limit of four mattresses per household, no commercial users, and "no scavenging".
