Double joy for Grehan following Walker Cup selection
Fresh from his success in the Irish Men's Amateur Close Golf Championship on Sunday, Tullamore's Stuart Grehan has been selected on the Great Britain and Ireland team who will play the USA at the 50th Walker Cup in Cypress Point, California, next month.
The County Louth GC member made history in Westport this weekend when he followed up his Flogas Irish Men’s Amateur Open Championship success from Seapoint earlier this summer with further prized silverware.
Grehan posted rounds of 65, 73, 70 and 71 over the championship's duration to claim the title by two strokes from Alex Kerins of Carton House GC.
Grehan's weekend success has since been complemented by his selection for the prestigious amateur golf tournament next month.
GB&I are going in search of their first win in the match since 2015 and Golf Ireland High Performance Director, Neil Manchip, is excited to see the potential of this team.
“Selection for the Walker Cup is a huge honour for any player, and I’m absolutely delighted for Stuart. To represent Great Britain and Ireland at a venue as special as Cypress Point is something that will stay with him for the rest of his live. Stuart’s form over the summer has been superb and he has shown his quality at the very highest level of amateur golf,” said Manchip.
This year’s Walker Cup takes place between September 6 and 7.
