Fiona Pender Memorial Walk/Run on Sunday next

The annual Fiona Pender Memorial Walk/Run will take place on Sunday next, August 31, in memory of the young Tullamore mother-to-be and her unborn baby who have now been missing for 29 years.

The walk will commence at 11.3Oam on Sunday next at Fiona's Monument on the banks of the Grand Canal, and organisers have asked the public to show their continued support to Fiona's family and friends and to help preserve her memory and that of her unborn baby.

Poignantly, the annual walk in memory of the young Tullamore hairdresser along the stretch of the Grand Canal which was renamed as Fiona's Way to honour her memory some years ago, is located close to where she grew up in her childhood home at nearby Connolly Park.

Saturday last, August 23, marked the 29th anniversary of the disappearance of Fiona Pender was last seen at the flat she shared with her then-boyfriend, in the early hours of August 23, 1996. She was aged 25 at the time she went missing and was seven months pregnant with her first child.

The investigation into the disappearance of Fiona Pender and her unborn baby was upgraded to a murder inquiry earlier this year, but despite a number of arrests being made in the early stages of the investigation, and extensive searches being carried out over almost three decades, nobody has ever been charged.
