Work underway on major Coláiste Choilm extension

Coláiste Choilm secondary school in Tullamore is currently undertaking a building extension to enhance its facilities and provide an improved learning environment for students.
The project, work on which is expected to continue for just over a year, is set to add approximately 2,000 square metres of additional space to the school.
Coláiste Choilm Principal Tadhg O'Sullivan shared that the new extension would include three general classrooms, a Technology Room with a dedicated prep area, two Science Laboratories with a shared prep area, a DCG room, an Art room, and a Multimedia room.
Additionally, a two-classroom SEN base will provide specialised learning spaces to support students with a diagnosis of Autism.
The construction is being carried out by Coolsivna Construction, a Mountbellew-based company with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality educational projects.
Temporary construction access will be via Bachelor’s Walk, and the project is scheduled for completion in October 2026.
The school said this significant development would greatly increase its capacity and resources, supporting both academic and extracurricular programmes, while also reflecting Coláiste Choilm’s ongoing commitment to providing modern, high-quality facilities that meet the needs of its growing student population.
Earlier this year, local TD Tony McCormack described the project as a very positive development for education in Tullamore, saying it would provide more space, better facilities, and more opportunities for local students.
"This is a major step forward in ensuring that children in our community have access to high-quality education without having to travel outside the jurisdiction to find a suitable school place," said Deputy McCormack.
