Offaly County Council will hear from prospective Presidential election candidates on September 22

Council confirm date to hear from prospective presidential candidates

The elected members of Offaly County Council will receive presentations from prospective candidates seeking the nomination of the local authority in the forthcoming presidential election on Monday, September 22.

Cathaoirleach, Cllr John Leahy, confirmed that a special meeting has been arranged by the Council executive, but stated that prospective Presidential election candidates will only be in a position to address the Chamber if they are "proposed and seconded by an elected member" in advance of their presentations.

"A total of 13 prospective Presidential election candidates submitted an interest in receiving the support of Offaly County Council and they have all been contacted regarding the special meeting on September 22.

"However, before they can address the Chamber, their presentation must be proposed and seconded by an elected member," Cllr Leahy said.
