Tullamore student features in Republic of Ireland women's U17 tournament
Tullamore's Emma Mooney featured in the first half of the Republic of Ireland women's Under 17 4-0 win over Slovenia in their opening game of an international tournament in North East Italy.
Mooney is one of two Athlone Town players in the Ireland squad taking part in the quadrangular tournament, club teammate Abbie Duffy an unused substitute in yesterday's game.
In a game that was abandoned on the hour mark due to torrential rain conditions, goals from Amelia Fahey, Halle Harcourt, Sophie Byrne and Keelin Comiskey had Ireland in a commanding position before play was halted.
The tournament, in which Italy and North Macedonia are competing, will see each team play three games across five days.
These games will aid the team's preparation for their upcoming UEFA European Championship qualifiers against Belgium, France and Germany in late October.
