Local contemporary artist to open new exhibition next month
A talented Offaly artist will launch her latest art exhibition in the Tullamore Court Hotel on Saturday, October 4, at 6.30pm.
With over 30 years of experience, Olive Cuskelly is a professional contemporary artist who lives near Daingean.
She believes in the transformative power of art, and finds joy in sharing her passion with both young school students and adults alike, nurturing creativity and encouraging self-expression.
In her current body of work, Olive draws deep inspiration from the emotional writings of Scottish poet Donna Ashworth, the UK bestselling female non-fiction author. Ashworth's skilful probe of themes such as hope, kindness, love, loss, compassion, and the beauty of nature intertwines seamlessly with Olive’s artistic views. In her approach she captures particular moments, celebrating the joys and accepting the sorrows of life.
Olive aims to impact the viewer on an emotional level with relatable visuals which reinforce the messages within Ashworth’s poetry, believing that these oil and acrylic paintings invite contemplation and connection and serve as a visual dialect for the sentiments found in Ashworth’s writings.
Viewers are encouraged to embrace the complexities of life while finding solace in compassion and love, Olive describing Ashworth’s writings as both uplifting and empowering.
These pieces showcase her progression as an artist and her commitment to express the beauty, trials and tribulations of life through her paintings.
Olive works from her purpose built art studio, ‘The Green Haven’, where she continues to teach art and develop her craft primarily in oils and acrylics.
Her appreciation for these mediums allows her to capture the unique qualities of light, colour and texture, resulting in evocative pieces which often blend fine brush details with textured palette knife techniques.
Olive’s works have been exhibited widely, becoming part of private collections across Ireland, England, France, Australia, America, and most recently Portugal.
She frequently takes on commissioned pieces for both private and public clients and actively participates in collaborative arts events while showcasing her work in Irish gallery spaces.
The exhibition will also be open to the public on Sunday, October 5 from 12pm-6.30pm to which all are welcome.
