Broadband rollout to be completed in Offaly by mid-2026
The rollout of high-speed fibre broadband across the Midlands region, including Offaly, will be completed by the end of summer next year, National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company delivering the Government’s National Broadband Plan (NBP), has confirmed.
Almost 40,000 homes, farms and businesses in the Midlands can now order a high-speed connection, with 15,725 already connected and enjoying the benefits of connectivity to NBI’s network.
With just over 4,000 premises left to be passed in the region, NBI is on track to complete the rollout to the region by the end of summer next year.
Speaking at the National Ploughing Championships which opened today (Tuesday) at Screggan, County Offaly, TJ Malone, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland, said fibre broadband was an essential utility for farming and rural life.
“It’s a proud day for NBI to mark such strong progress here at the Ploughing Championships in the heart of the Midlands.
Already, almost 40,000 premises in the Midlands have been delivered and can order a high-speed fibre connection, with more than 15,000 enjoying the benefits in their homes, farms and businesses.
"With just over 4,000 premises left to go in the area, we are in the final stretch of the main deployment phase and anticipate delivering fibre connectivity to the Midlands by the end of next summer.
“Fibre broadband is now an essential utility for farming and rural life. It allows families to work and study from home, gives farmers the tools to drive productivity and sustainability, and supports local businesses to compete on a global stage," Mr Malone said.
