Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund 'overwhelmed' by Ploughing support

The Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund committee have said that they are "still coming to terms with the truly overwhelming and heartwarming support" they received at the National Ploughing Championships in Screggan last week.

In a social media post, the committee stated that they approached the three day event with "one aim in mind, to honour Ashling and her legacy".

"Our hope was to share a little piece of Ashling and her values with all who joined us, and to highlight how the Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund continues her legacy through the promotion and funding of initiatives within the areas of traditional Irish arts, culture, and heritage.

"The response exceeded all expectations. The generosity we received from all who visited was truly overwhelming. We were particularly touched by the younger generation, teenagers and children, who not only offered their support but also showed a sincere wish to learn more about Ashling and the work of the Fund. The messages of support, expressions of sympathy, encouragement, and kindness shared throughout the week will never be forgotten," the committee's social media post stated.

The committee expressed its gratitude to all those who ensured the Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund exhibit was such a success, including the National Ploughing Association, all the musicians and dancers who gave of their time during the event, guest speakers, sponsors and volunteers, with particular mention to Attracta Brady, President of Comhaltas, "for her unwavering support in launching the Ashling Murphy Gaeltacht Scholarships for second, TY & fifth year students".

"To each and everyone of you who stood with us at the ploughing, supported us, and helped us share Ashling’s light, we thank you most sincerely. Together, you have ensured that Ashling’s legacy continues to inspire and uplift through the arts, culture, heritage, and community she loved so dearly," the social media post concluded.
