Offaly metalsmith creates new sculpture for Lough Boora Discovery Park

Offaly metalsmith Kevin O'Dwyer has created a brand-new sculpture titled 'Regeneration' for Lough Boora Discovery Park.

Rising 6 metres into the open Offaly sky, "Regeneration" will take its place among the park’s renowned site-specific works.

Fabricated from steel, the sculpture’s surface will weather naturally over time, developing a warm, organic patina that reflects the parklands’ own transformation from a post-industrial bog to a thriving biodiverse sanctuary.

The form of "Regeneration" draws inspiration from the seed—an elemental, universal emblem of growth and new beginnings. Through a repeated, abstracted seed motif, the sculpture references cycles of renewal found in ecosystems across the world, from wetlands and forests to coastlines and human communities.

“Lough Boora is a place where art, ecology, and memory intersect,” says Mr O’Dwyer.

“Regeneration is both a tribute to the resilience of this landscape and a reminder that renewal is possible—in nature.

The work reflects the park’s ethos of balance between human legacy and natural process, bridging industrial material with organic form. Its careful siting within the sculpture park will ensure harmony with both the surrounding artworks and the expansive midlands landscape.
