Offaly TDs attend 'constructive' meeting on Midlands business challenges

Offaly TDs Tony McCormack and John Clendennen met with the Irish Business and Employers Confederation (IBEC) in Athlone last Friday to discuss challenges facing Midlands businesses.

The IBEC Midlands Regional Executive Committee meeting was held at Ericsson Athlone on Friday, September 26.

Deputy McCormack said the meeting was 'very constructive', as they spoke about key challenges and opportunities for businesses across Offaly and the wider Midlands.

He continued: "From supporting local enterprise and job creation to ensuring the right infrastructure is in place, it’s vital that communities across Offaly are strongly positioned to grow and thrive.

"I want to thank Ibec for the engagement and look forward to continuing the conversation on how we can best support workers, employers, and families right across Offaly."

Deputy Clendennen added that continued efforts need to be made to "truly open up the region and continue to attract investment".

"A valuable discussion with Chair Pat O’Neill and business leaders from across the region on driving business growth and supporting enterprise across the Midlands to protect and create jobs.

"I want to start a conversation about the the feasibility of a motorway through the spine of the midlands from north to south with the objective of further balancing regional investment and development."
