Adverse weather forecast forces rescheduling of James O'Connor Memorial Walk
The impending arrival of the first storm of the new season, Storm Amy, over the coming days has forced Accessible Counselling Tullamore (ACT) to make the difficult decision to postpone one of their biggest fundraising events of the year, the James O’Connor Memorial Walk, which was due to take place this Friday in Tullamore Harriers.
In a post on their Facebook page, ACT said they made the decision to postpone the event "in the interest of everyone's safety" and they have now set a new date for this year's walk - on Friday, October 17 next.
ACT described the decision to postpone the James O'Connor Memorial Walk this Friday evening as being "a very difficult decision" but with strong winds and heavy rain predicted to sweep across the country as part of Storm Amy, they prioritised the safety of all those due to take part.
"We hope you will all join us on the new date to honour James’s legacy and support ACT, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this change may cause and thank you for your understanding" the charity said, adding that "your support means so much to us, and we look forward to walking together on October 17th."
The annual memorial walk is held to honour the legacy of the late James O'Connor, the co-founder of ACT, who was dedicated to making affordable, professional counselling accessible to everyone in the Midlands. Through ACT's ongoing work, James's vision continues to support hundreds of people each year. To date the service has seen over 2,800 clients and provided over 16,000 counselling sessions.
