Mick O'Brien in action in the European Prison Service Cross Country Championships.

O'Brien helps Ireland win silver in European cross country event

On Saturday last, Tullamore Harriers athlete Mick O'Brien participated in the European Prison Service Cross Country Championships which were held in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Mick was representing the Irish Prison Service team and there was a total of 14 countries in contention for medals. The 10k race consisted of four laps of a demanding course which was made all the more testing by challenging weather.

O'Brien ran a consistent race and moved through the field to finish ninth overall in 37:46, leading the Irish team to an excellent second place overall.

Mick rounded it off with a superb first place in the over 45 category.

Tullamore Harriers AC has congratulated Mick on his performance and the Irish team on winning a silver medal.
