Offaly project scoops national housing award

Tullamore company Kearney’s Drive has claimed a prestigious national award at this year’s Irish Council for Social Housing (ICSH) Community Housing Awards.

The local development, managed by Oaklee, took the top spot in the Medium Family Housing Project category, with winners announced at a ceremony held in the Slieve Russell Hotel, Cavan.

The 41-home development provides general needs housing with a smart and inclusive mix of residents, from single people and couples to families and older tenants.

With a strong focus on community, the estate features a beautifully landscaped play area, a running track, and thoughtful design features like sheltered seating outside homes to promote neighbourly interaction and safe play for children.

Speaking about the success, Chief Executive of the ICSH Donal McManus said: “The calibre of entries this year has been truly inspiring, and Kearney’s Drive is a shining example of the creativity and commitment we’re seeing in housing projects across the country. It’s particularly encouraging to see developments like this in Offaly leading the way.”

The awards, sponsored by IPB Insurance, shine a light on the work of approved housing bodies (AHBs), local authorities and the Land Development Agency in delivering homes and building sustainable communities throughout Ireland.

IPB Chairman John Hogan also praised the Tullamore project and others across the country: “It’s been an honour to support these awards and to learn more about the inspiring efforts behind these developments. Kearney’s Drive shows what’s possible when vision and collaboration come together.”
