Offaly's Laura is Maynooth University Student Ambassador
A former student at Killina Secondary School in Rahan has been appointed as a Student Ambassador in St. Patrick's Pontifical University, Maynooth after a competitive university-wide recruitment process.
In her new role, Laura Molloy will provide a vital link for incoming students, assisting with orientation activities, providing campus tours and being on hand with advice and recommendations on how best to transition from second level into life at university.
Laura and her fellow ambassadors will also assist at university events throughout the year passing on their first-hand experiences of life at St Patrick’s Pontifical University.
Speaking about her own personal experience of studying on the Maynooth campus, Laura Molloy said it has been "nothing short of amazing" and added that, from her very first day she has felt "right at home" with the the small class sizes allowing her to make lifelong friendships. "There's a real sense of community here, everyone knows each other and the lecturers take a genuine interest in how you're doing academically and in your overall growth."
As a student of both theology and history, Laura says her understanding of both subjects has been deepened, and her studies have given her "a real appreciation" of how both of her chosen subjects connect. "You feel a real sense of warmth on campus especially in Pugin Hall where you meet and catch up with both lecturers and friends” she said.
The town of Maynooth and the campus of St. Patrick's Pontifical University are very closely connected and are really extensions of each other, according to Laura Molloy and her fellow Student Ambassadors.
Laura also points out that students enjoy the benefits of having all the amenities they need close at hand without the busyness of a large city, while still being very accessible to Dublin which is only 30 minutes away and served by excellent rail and road links.
