Committee selected for new Offaly climate action group
A new community organisation - Offaly Climate and Biodiversity Action Group - has been officially launched with a mission to protect local biodiversity, promote sustainable living, and foster environmental awareness across the county.
At its first AGM, held in Tullamore on October 7, the group selected its committee. The committee members are: Helene Rouget, Gaelan Elliffe, Joe O'Sullivan, Notik Oshodiand, Cian Hayden and Sean Hynes.
Offaly Climate and Biodiversity Action Group said it aims to bring together residents, businesses, and community groups to create practical solutions for climate resilience and ecological preservation.
Its objectives include: Restoring native habitats; community education; collaborative projects with groups around the county, and advocacy.
The group said it plans to organise pop-up climate cafés across Offaly for people in their local area to meet and discuss their concerns and solutions.
The group added that its primary aim for the coming year is to help Offaly people "to work together so that we can create practical solutions to both preserve and build our country's biodiversity map and climate resilience" for the coming years.
"County Offaly is rich in natural beauty and heritage. Our goal is to ensure that future generations can enjoy thriving ecosystems while living sustainably," said Gaelan Elliffe, founding member of Offaly Climate and Biodiversity Action Group.
The group invites everyone based in Offaly to get involved through volunteering, attending events, or sharing ideas. For more information, see Offaly Climate and Biodiversity Action Group on Facebook or email: offalyclimateandbio@outlook.com
