Weekend rail works to cause major disruption to Offaly services

Irish Rail has notified customers of significant planned disruption to train services on the Dublin to Galway and Dublin to Westport routes this weekend.

Those planning on taking the train from Clara, Tullamore, or Portarlington this Saturday or Sunday (November 1 and 2) should be aware that engineering works are to be carried out on both days between Dublin Heuston and Newbridge.

This will mean all services between Dublin and Galway, and between Dublin and Westport/Ballina, will include bus transfers between Dublin Heuston and Kildare in both directions. Services will also operate to a revised schedule.

In addition, services between Dublin and Cork, and between Dublin and Limerick, will include bus transfers between Dublin Heuston and Portarlington in both directions, and will operate to a revised schedule

Some trains - such as Saturday's scheduled 17:10 Dublin Heuston to Athlone and 18:30 Dublin Heuston to Galway services - have been cancelled.

Other services to the capital, meanwhile, will terminate in Kildare with bus transfers from there to Dublin Heuston, and vice versa in the case of those on westbound journeys.
