Improved sensory room launched at Tullamore Gaelscoil
Gaelscoil an Eiscir Riada located beside the Aura Leisure Centre in Cloncollig, Tullamore, officially launched its newly improved sensory room recently.
The sensory room was improved using funds raised by the Faile Vintage Club tractor run which took place on Sunday, March 9, in Daingean.
School principal Donna Ní Mhairtín invited the tractor run’s organisers to the launch to witness the remarkable difference their funds are making to pupils in the school.
The new equipment enables children with sensory needs to learn in a manner that is suited to them throughout the day.
The school also used the funds to improve the external garden which provides students with a quiet and calm space in nature. It has been dedicated to their late colleague, Máistir Richie Ó Mathúna, who taught in the school from 1999 until his untimely passing in June 2024.
Additional equipment was purchased for use by the children including a ball pool, a hammock swing, a squeeze machine (for deep pressure treatment), ambient lights, balance boards, fidget toys, interactive games, a textured sensory floor and wall mats.
The school has just over 180 pupils and is currently taking names for enrolment in September 2026.
