‘Cripple of Inishmaan’ set for Edenderry stage

Drama-lovers in the north Offaly area of Edenderry are in for a rare treat when local drama group, Gemini Players, bring Martin McDonagh's The Cripple of Inishmaan to the stage in the town next week.

The play will be performed in St Patrick's School in Edenderry for three nights next week, from Friday to Sunday, November 14 to 16, at 8pm. Doors open at 7.30pm each night and tickets are available on the door.

The Cripple of Inishmaan is a darkly comic and deeply moving play set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland in 1934, and written by one of the most acclaimed Irish playwrights of the modern era, Martin McDonagh.

The plot revolves around the young Billy Claven — known to locals as “Cripple Billy” — whose quiet life takes an unexpected turn when a Hollywood film crew arrives on a neighbouring island. As gossip, dreams, and rivalries swirl, the sharp wit and poignant storytelling of Martin McDonagh brings to life a community both endearing and exasperating.

The production by Gemini Players features a wonderful mix of young and new talent alongside more experienced cast members. This serves to create a lively and authentic ensemble. Under the skilled direction of John Maguire, audiences can expect an evening of laughter, heart, and unforgettable characters.

The Cripple of Inishmaan promises to be an engaging night of theatre that captures the spirit, humour, and heartbreak of small-town Ireland.

Don’t miss your chance to see this remarkable production in St Patrick's School in Edenderry next week.
