Restoration work on Offaly farm to be shown at event this weekend
An event on an Offaly farm tomorrow (Saturday) will showcase a restoration project carried out with the help of a grant from the Traditional Farm Buildings scheme.
The event will be held at Clonlyon, Belmont, Birr (Eircode: R42 NT99) between 2pm and 2.45pm this Saturday, November 15.
Roseanne Dolan told the Offaly Independent that the restoration project had restored an old shed dating from pre-1920.
"It was a house at one point, and was later used to accommodate horses," Roseanne said. "Thanks to a grant under the Traditional Farm Buildings scheme from the Heritage Council and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, we have restored it.
"Plaster added in more recent times was removed, the stone was exposed and repointed, and the roof was repaired."
At tomorrow's event, local historian and author Aidan Doyle will deliver a talk. All who are interested are invited to attend.
