Garda investigation "ongoing" after Offaly house fire claims life of woman in 60's

A Garda investigation is continuing in an effort to determine the case of a house fire in Moneygall, on the Offaly border with Tipperary, which claimed the life of a woman in her 60's on Friday night last.

According to a statement from the Garda Press Office, members of An Garda Síochána and the emergency services attended the scene of the fatal house fire in Moneygall, on the evening of Friday, November 14, at approximately 10pm.

The blaze was brought under control by the fire service and the body of a woman (aged in her 60s) was recovered from inside the residence. No other injuries were reported.

The local coroner was notified, and the woman's body was brought from the scene of the Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore.

The scene was preserved for technical examination and, as of this afternoon (Monday), the Garda investigation into the cause of the fire was "ongoing."

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
