Zambia Fundraiser in Birr raises more than €7,000
A coffee morning fundraiser for the Orphans and Vulnerables Organisation, (OVO), Zambia, took place in St Brendan’s Church, Birr, after each of the Masses on Sunday last, November 16.
Organisers Marie and John O’Halloran wish to extend warm and sincere gratitude to all those who donated money, sponsored cakes and goodies, helped on Sunday, or otherwise participated in the event.
"A special thank you to Fr Tom and the parish team for giving us this opportunity and for all their assistance and support," Marie said.
"It was a great success and raised just over €7,000 on the day.
"The full proceeds will go directly to the above charity under the leadership of Fr Micheal Walsh for distribution where most needed in Pemba, Southern Province, Zambia.
"Money is being raised primarily for equipping a new primary school and for food in Pemba, a very rural area. Failure of crops due to lack of rain over the last two years has led to disastrous consequences for people living at subsistence."
