Local Credit Unions unite for eco living roadshow initiative

Tullamore Credit Union and St Brigid’s Credit Union Clara recently united to deliver their maiden collaborative initiative, a series of events promoting Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) principles and sustainable living.

These events aim to educate and inspire members, local communities and businesses on the importance of ESG practices and their positive impact on society and the environment.

The ESG roadshow saw the launch of a new loan product at both credit unions, the ECO Energy Efficient Loan, specifically designed for all forms of insulation, attic wall or floor, external window or door upgrade, renewable energy source (pellet stove, solar panels), electric/hybrid car or retrofitting your home.

The ESG Roadshows took place in Tuar Ard, Moate and the Tullamore Court Hotel. Both events featured networking opportunities with local stakeholders, exhibitors, and guest speakers who shared insights on ESG principles, corporate responsibility and practical steps toward sustainability.

Attendees explored ESG products and services offered by both credit unions and connected with local suppliers of green solutions. Exhibitors included Eco Homes Tullamore, Flynn Heat Recovery, Walsh Brothers, Taylor Made Plastering and AEI. Guest speakers featured Mary McIntyre from Offaly County Council, Niall Condron-BER assessor, Darren Buckley AEI and Simon Byrne, principal of Scoil Eoin Phoil.

Tullamore Credit Union Deputy CEO Caroline Collins-Murphy said the collaboration "marked a milestone for both organisations".

“We are immensely proud of our first collaborative ESG roadshow with St Brigid’s Credit Union, Clara. This collaboration demonstrated our shared commitment to promoting ESG principles and sustainable living within our communities. The enthusiastic participation of local business exhibitors added tremendous value, showcasing innovative solutions and practical steps towards a greener future. By working together, we have not only educated and inspired our members, but also strengthened community ties and created new opportunities for local businesses.

Local exhibitors also expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to showcase their products at the collaborative roadshow events.

Jimmy Taylor, Taylormade Plastering Ltd said it was a pleasure to attend and meet "others in similar fields".

Niall Condron, Independent Renewable Energy Adviser, acknowledged the presence of "so many enthusiastic and knowledgeable people in the renewable energy sector", while Alan McEvoy, General Manager Eco Home Log Cabins, said the company was "grateful for the opportunity to strengthen our partnership with these like-minded organisations”.

Flynn Heat Recovery Systems were also delighted to be invited to participate in the Tullamore & Clara Credit Union Greener Homes Exhibition.

"It was great to meet with others who are as passionate as us about energy upgrades and improving the indoor environment of homes. This was a fantastic event and a credit to all involved, and we look forward to supporting the next exhibition".

Both roadshows were a resounding success, creating strong community engagement and valuable networking opportunities for businesses and individuals committed to sustainability.
