Offaly Traveller Movement nominated for Tusla Excellence & Innovation Award

Offaly Traveller Movement, in collaboration with Laois Travellers Action Group and Tusla Laois/Offaly, was honoured to be nominated for a prestigious Tusla Excellence & Innovation Award.

The nomination comes after a competitive selection process, where 90 projects were initially considered for the award, which was ultimately narrowed down to just 16 nominees.

While the group did not win the award, the nomination itself serves as a significant recognition of the hard work and dedication put into their collaborative project, Creating Connections.

The project’s goal was to build meaningful and lasting relationships between Tusla and the Traveller community, and its impact over the past three years has been nothing short of transformative.

“This nomination reflects the strong bonds we’ve worked to build over time with Tusla staff, the Traveller Projects, families, and young people,” said a spokesperson for the Offaly Traveller Movement.

“It’s been a journey of consistent effort, trust, and willingness to collaborate. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together.”

The Creating Connections project has fostered deeper understanding, trust, and cooperation between the Traveller community and Tusla, addressing critical needs and enhancing support for families and young people. Despite not clinching the award, the teams involved expressed optimism about the future.

“We’re looking forward to continuing this work and expanding on the relationships we've built. The nomination itself is a testament to the positive impact we’ve made,” the spokesperson added.

As they reflect on the past three years, the team is eager to continue the important work of strengthening connections within the community, ensuring that the support and understanding cultivated over time remain at the heart of their efforts.
