Offaly boxer ranked sixth on the world stage

Offaly boxer and Paris 2024 Olympian, Grainne Walsh, has been ranked at number six in the world at her weight division in the first ever World Boxing year-end rankings.

Gráinne is one of six Team Ireland boxers to make the top ten in the prestigious rankings with Roscommon World Boxing gold medallist, Aoife O'Rourke ranked at number one in the world in the 75kg division, and her sister, Lisa, ranked at number six in her weight division (70kg).

Meanwhile, Mullingar's Patsy Joyce, who won a bronze medal at the inaugural World Boxing Championships in Liverpool in September, is ranked at number five in the world at his weight division of 55kg, while heavyweight Olympian, Jack Marley, is ranked at number eight in the world in the 90kg division.

Now boxing out of the St. Mary's Boxing Club in Tallaght, which is the home club of two-time Olympic Gold medallist, Kellie Harrington, Gráinne Walsh also won a bronze medal at the inaugural World Boxing Championships in Liverpool when she defeated Olympic silver medallist, Liu Yang from China, who is listed at number four in the latest World Boxing rankings. The winner of the gold medal in the 65kg weight division, Aida Abikeyeva from Kazakhstan is the top-ranked boxer at 65kg.

The rankings will be used to determine seedings at World Boxing’s major Elite competitions, including the World Boxing Championships, Continental Boxing Championships, Multi-Sport Games, World Boxing Cup Finals and others.
