Nearly 200 gather for annual 'Santa Dash' in Lough Boora
Nearly 200 people finished the annual Santa Dash 5k fundraiser which was hosted by Lough Boora Running Group and Ferbane Athletics Club in Lough Boora Discovery Park last Sunday.
Organisers said a "magical" occasion was enjoyed by all, with numbers taking part in the event steadily growing each year.
Every euro raised from the event goes to Offaly Hospice and Suamhnais Autism Class in St Brendan’s Community School, making the day not only festive but truly meaningful.
Of the 197 finishers, Colin Maher, from Ballyfin AC, was the first man home in 15:01, and Sarah Whitteker from Tullamore Harriers, first woman to finish, in a time of 19:35.
The organisers extended their thanks to everyone who ran, walked, strolled, jingled, jangled, baked, barked, brewed, marshalled, sponsored, donated, cheered, and sprinkled Christmas sparkle on the day!
Gratitude was also extended to local sponsors, sponsors of spot prizes and selection boxes, Derrinlough Wind Farm, and the event's main sponsors, Greencoat Renewables and Cloghan Windfarm Ltd.
"A huge festive shout-out to John Bennett and Paddy Daly, and the hardworking team of elves who kept everything running smoothly behind the scenes, without whom this magical event would not have been possible," the Santa Dash organisers added.
"Warm thanks to the dedicated course markers and health and safety checkers, who made sure every twist and turn of the route was clear, safe, and ready for all the festive feet flying around Boora.
"A big thank you to all the athletics clubs across Offaly and further afield who came along to support, and to Lynx Cycling Club for rolling in with enthusiasm and festive energy.
"To My Run Results, Midlands 103’s Will Faulkner and John Leahy, Rock on Paddy, Teach Lea, Offaly Civil Defence, Athletics Ireland, Offaly Athletics and Bord na Móna management, John Leahy and Ava Daly on registration, and everyone who helped create an atmosphere full of colour, warmth, and holiday spirit—your support means so much.
"And of course, a huge thank you to our VIP guests: Santa, Mrs Claus, and The Grinch, who brought the perfect blend of magic, mischief, and festive fun."
