Funding awarded for road safety works at two Offaly schools
One primary and one secondary school in Offaly have been awarded funding for road safety improvements under the latest round of the Government's 'Safe Routes to School' programme.
St Patrick’s National School in Clonbullogue, and Killina Presentation Secondary School, were both approved for funding allocations under the scheme, which aims to deliver safer school environments and make walking, wheeling and cycling to school a more attractive option for students and families.
The improvements include school zone features such as upgraded footpaths, enhanced pedestrian crossings, pencil-shaped bollards, and colourful road markings designed to slow traffic and make walking and cycling safer for students.
The schools in Offaly were among 105 nationally which were approved for works under Round 4 of the Safe Routes to School Programme.
Welcoming the funding announcement, Offaly TD John Clendennen said: "This is very welcome news for the school communities of St Patrick's NS Clonbullogue and Killina Presentation Secondary School.
"Safe Routes to School funding will help deliver real, practical safety improvements around these schools, giving parents greater peace of mind and encouraging more children to travel actively to school.
"Since its launch, this programme has made tangible progress right across the country, improving road safety, supporting healthier lifestyles, reducing congestion at school drop-off times and contributing to our broader climate goals.
"I will continue to work with Ministers, the National Transport Authority and Offaly County Council to ensure these projects progress as quickly as possible," he added.
