Politicians meet Gardaí to address safety concerns after tragic Edenderry fire

Offaly TD John Clendennen and Cllr Noel Cribbin met with Chief Superintendent Anthony Lonergan and Inspector Barry Collins to discuss community safety and policing in the area, following the tragic fire incident in Edenderry last week, which claimed two innocent lives.

The meeting focused on strengthening community policing, increasing Garda visibility and resources, and addressing the devastating impact of drugs.

A visible Garda presence was emphasised as key to providing reassurance and maintaining confidence in the community, with the newly established Local Community Safety Partnership expected to play an important role.

Additionally, ongoing discussions with Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan will continue to ensure that the concerns of the people of Offaly are addressed and that Gardaí have the necessary support.

Community safety is a shared responsibility, and anyone with information about criminal or anti-social behaviour is urged to come forward and assist Gardaí.
