Over €1.5 million in funding has been announced for Offaly under Fáilte Ireland’s Regenerative Tourism and Placemaking Scheme, delivered through the EU Just Transition Fund.
The announcement was made today (Friday) by Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke, in partnership with Fáilte Ireland, as part of a wider €5.5 million investment across the Midlands region.
Offaly projects account for four of 17 Regenerative Tourism Projects across the Midlands to receive funding under the scheme.
The programme is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union and is specifically designed to support counties most impacted by the transition away from peat and fossil-fuel industries. To date, almost €60 million has been allocated nationally under the scheme.

Bellfield House and Gardens has received €288,000 for accessibility and visitor experience enhancements to existing visitor attraction and surrounding grounds. This includes accessible toilets, ramps, wayfinding signage, accessible walking trails, and renovation of existing buildings to house a reception, visitor centre, gift shop, café, and workshop space.

Mid Ireland Adventure has received €200,000 for the purchase of a rigid inflatable boat (RIB) to provide a unique safari experience on the River Shannon at Banagher Marina.
Speaking following the announcement, Td for Offaly John Clendennen said: “This is a very significant investment for Offaly and a clear demonstration of the Government and EU’s commitment to supporting our county through the Just Transition. Tourism has a vital role to play in creating new economic opportunities and long-term employment while protecting our natural environment.”
He said the funding will strengthen Offaly’s tourism offering, enhance accessibility, support sustainable and low-carbon tourism, and help local businesses and communities develop experiences that attract visitors year-round.
“These investments will help drive visitor numbers, increase local spending, and support rural communities across the county. Importantly, they also prioritise inclusivity and accessibility, ensuring everyone can enjoy what Offaly has to offer.”
Deputy Clendennen concluded by reaffirming his commitment to continuing to work closely with local communities, Offaly County Council, tourism providers and Minister Peter Burke to ensure Offaly continues to maximise funding opportunities.
