Truck driver tests positive for drugs in midlands
A truck driver tested positive for cannabis and cocaine when stopped just before Christmas in the midlands.
The driver was stopped at a checkpoint on December 23 in the Laois/Offaly Garda Division.
In a post on social media, Gardai said the Volvo truck was stopped at the first MIT (mandatory intoxicant checkpoint) of the day and the driver tested positive for cannabis and cocaine.
Noting that Volvo builds some of the safest trucks on the roads, they said, with the positive tests, “And just like that, every safety feature became irrelevant... “
Gardai said the driver was arrested and the vehicle seized.
