Birr vigil to remember lives of 26,000 children lost in Palestine conflict

A vigil is being hosted in Birr's Emmet Square to remember lives of 26,000 children lost in the Palestine conflict since October 2023.

Taking place on Saturday, January 10, at 2pm, the vigil will also host a 140ft crochet blanket created by Craftivism for Palestine.

The piece is made up of 2,300 squares of crochet, each representing ten children who have died since the beginning of the genocide.

Over the past few months, the blanket has travelled around the country, with Offaly being one of its last locations to be hosted in.

"We are calling on the people of Birr and Offaly to hold this blanket with us, to hold these 26,000 children of Gaza in our hearts," a statement on the Tullamore for Gaza page read.
