LOETB Birr students to take over Dublin radio station

Music Industry and Event Management students from LOETB Birr will take over 'The Power of Dreams' on Dublin South 93.9 FM on Wednesday, January 28, from 11am to 1pm.

The broadcast follows the success of the students’ Dance with Me Tonight campaign, which raised over €2,350 for charity, reached No. 14 on the IRMA Homegrown Charts, and culminated in a concert at Birr Arts Theatre.

After awarding certificates for the project last May, Dublin South FM director Marian Shanley invited the group to collaborate with station professionals and run a full two-hour show.

The programme will feature student hosts, Irish music selections, live performances, and discussions on local, national and global positive news. Original music recorded especially for the show will also air.

Music Industry & Event Management teacher John McFadden said the students have organised every aspect of the broadcast, from content planning to production and promotion.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun, but beyond that, there are valuable learning outcomes and educational experiences happening behind the scenes. Radio production involves so much, from planning content to creating vox pops, stings, and interviews to promoting the show both locally and globally via online means, and they’ve taken on all of it.”

LOETB Birr Centre Manager Enda Kennedy praised the takeover as a valuable real-world learning opportunity and thanked Dublin South FM for its support.

“This radio takeover is a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase their creativity and professionalism on a national platform.

"It reflects the hands-on, real-world learning we value at LOETB Birr, and we’re incredibly proud of their dedication and the skills they’ve developed to make this happen. We are deeply thankful to Marian Shanley and Dublin South FM for supporting our students and giving them this incredible chance”.
