ALDI Ireland announces pay rise for staff

ALDI Ireland has announced a 2% increase for staff paid hourly rates, with effect from February 1.

ALDI first committed to paying the Living Wage at a minimum in 2018. The company says the latest increase means wages have increased by 25% across the last five years. This pay increase means the minimum hourly base pay rate at ALDI’s stores and warehouses will be €15.40 per hour, with additional annual increments rising to €17.75 after one, two and three years of service.

The business is investing approximately €5.5 million in this pay review, including auto-enrolment contributions.

ALDI has 166 stores across Ireland, and more than 4,800 staff across its store network. It said the latest increase will see the business meet or exceed the Living Wage, as calculated by the Living Wage Technical Group (LWTG) for the eighth year in succession.

Niall O’Connor, ALDI Ireland’s Country Managing Director, said: “Our focus at ALDI has always been firmly on our customers and our colleagues, and today's announcement is a testament to this commitment to our team. We are proud to confirm a 2% pay increase for our valued hourly colleagues, effective from February 1. This marks the eighth consecutive year we have met or exceeded the recommended Living Wage, which is central to our commitment to making ALDI one of the best places to work in Ireland. Importantly, while we invest in our people, our products will continue to offer the best value in the market.”
