First look at Offaly film 'One Sweet Hour' at Screen Ireland launch
Audiences have received their first look at One Sweet Hour, the latest project from Edenderry native Eugene O’Brien, as it was unveiled at the Screen Ireland 2026 Production Slate launch.
The launch event at Trinity College Dublin saw nearly 100 people from the Irish screen industry gather to celebrate the future of Irish cinema.
The film, which O’Brien both wrote and co-directed with Declan Recks, is one of the most anticipated titles of the year, offering a deeply personal story set in the heart of Offaly.
The film follows an aging Elvis impersonator who embarks on a life-changing journey through the canals of the Midlands, accompanied by his estranged brother, who has recently left his life in a monastery.
As they travel together, the two brothers confront their troubled pasts, exploring themes of redemption, identity, and the power of family.
The film is part of a diverse slate of 87 projects announced by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, which includes 22 feature films, 17 documentaries, 13 TV dramas, and over 30 short films.
The 2026 slate is set to bring a wide variety of Irish stories to both local and international audiences, further cementing Ireland's position as a hub for creative storytelling.
Screen Ireland’s ongoing support for homegrown talent ensures that stories from across Ireland continue to reach global audiences.
