Tubber's Megan shines in debut appearance on TG4's Glór Tire
Tubber's Megan O'Hara is through to the semi-final of country music talent competition Glór Tire after she wowed the judges during her debut apperance on the show which aired on TG4 last night (Tuesday).
Megan was fast-tracked to the final four on the show, where she will continue her quest to emerge as the winner of the €5,000 prize on offer.
She and fellow contestant Marty Breslin are both being mentored by Michael English, though she joked that she has a second mentor in the form of her mother, Moate native Teresa, with whom she formed a band called The Band Sí last year.
The local performer opened her appearance on the show by duetting with Michael English on 'Last Thing On My Mind' and then delivered a crowd-pleasing performance of 'Let Him Go, Let Him Tarry' as her solo vocal performance on the night.
A watch-party of the Glór Tire episode was held at Martin's pub in Doon last night, and heard glowing reviews of Megan's performance.
"I thought she was fantastic," Michael English said on the broadcast. "The first thing I noticed was, the very minute she started, the dancers flocked to the floor.
"She looks as if she was on stage all her life. Without being over-confident, she looks very comfortable up there, and the people loved her."
The judges agreed, with Trudy Lawlor praising Megan's "incredible" and seemingly "effortless" singing and stage presence.
The judges could send either Megan or her co-contestant Marty Breslin directly through to the semi-final, with the other going into the elimination round, and they chose Megan, meaning she will be back in action on the show during the coming weeks.
The local singer also performed the national anthem ahead of last Sunday's league meeting of the Offaly and Tipperary hurlers at Glenisk O'Connor Park in Tullamore.
