Offaly represented at national launch of Daffodil Day fundraiser
Fundraising volunteers in Offaly are urging their community to turn daffodil yellow on Daffodil Day, with the Irish Cancer Society's big annual fundraiser taking place on March 20.
A launch of the national fundraising day in support of cancer patients was held in Croke Park on Friday, January 30, with broadcaster Miriam O'Callaghan acting as MC on the day.
A number of supporters of the Daffodil Day campaign from Birr, Tullamore and Daingean were among those in attendance on the day.
Edel Shovlin, Acting CEO of the Irish Cancer Society, said: "This year alone, it’s estimated that 44,000 people will be diagnosed with cancer in Ireland. There isn’t a family that hasn’t felt the devastating impact of a cancer diagnosis. But no matter what cancer brings, the Irish Cancer Society is here to help.
"All of our essential services, like free counselling, Daffodil Centres, Night Nursing, and patient travel are fuelled by fundraising," she stated.
"It's also thanks to the generosity of the public that we can fund groundbreaking cancer research to help develop kinder, gentler treatments, with the aim of achieving our ambition of a future where no one dies from cancer.
"The more we raise on Daffodil Day, the more we can do. The more help we can give to children and adults going through cancer, the more lifesaving research we can fund, and the sooner we can ensure all cancer survivors have the support they need to live life to the full. We're all in because you are. Join us this Daffodil Day and help us do more."
Daffodil Day 2026 will take place on Friday, March 20. Anyone wishing to get involved with their school, company, or in the community is being asked to visit cancer.ie to learn more.
