Profile of a Parkrunner: Meet Martina

Meet Martina Lawlor, from Portarlington, as she prepares to complete her 250th parkrun at Mountlucas parkrun

When did you first complete a parkrun?

I attended my first parkrun in 2017, I wanted to improve my fitness and make new friends.

What's your favourite thing about parkrun?

I enjoy the challenge of pushing myself each week and there is a great community spirit with encouragement from all at every run.

How does it feel to have completed almost 250 parkruns?

I will complete my 250th parkrun in March which is a great achievement, and is so possible when you enjoy what your doing.

What is your favourite parkrun memory?

My favourite parkrun memory would be in 2019, when my husband and children started to join me each week. They now have the parkrun bug and it is now family tradition.

What words would you use to describe Mountlucas parkrun?

The community, the volunteers, and the participants make Mountlucas parkrun what it is today. We as a family went from lazy Saturday morning, to now being part of a great team. My husband Martin volunteers as a Run Director, myself and my children volunteer in numerous roles. Without volunteers we would have no parkrun. Come along anytime you won't regret it.

Mountlucas parkrun takes place at Bord na Móna Mountlucas windfarm every Saturday morning at 9.30am sharp. There's something for everyone at Mountlucas parkrun whether you want to walk, run, volunteer or just meet new people. Parkrun isn’t just a timed run: it’s about community, inclusivity, and wellbeing. Every event at Mountlucas brings together people of all ages and abilities, creating a warm, encouraging atmosphere. Whether you’re walking your first 5 km or picking up your 50th, Mountlucas parkrun offers something for everyone.
