Awards night honours LOETB Birr further education learners

The LOETB Birr Further Education and Training Centre (FETC) Awards Night took place in Dooly’s Hotel on Thursday, January 29, celebrating the achievements of more than 175 learners across QQI Levels 3 to 6.

In his opening address, Birr FETC Centre Manager, Enda Kennedy, praised the students for their dedication and commitment, and acknowledged the professionalism and support of staff in helping learners achieve success.

He highlighted the continued growth of the centre as an integrated education and training hub, offering Post-Leaving Certificate programmes, Back to Education Initiatives, Literacy supports, and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages).

Mr Kennedy spoke about the wide range of courses on offer, including Business and Finance, Horticulture (delivered in partnership with Birr Castle), Retail and Pharmacy, Event Management, Sport and Recreation, Art and Design, and Special Needs Assisting to name but a few.

The ceremony was attended by Michelle Shanahan FET Manager Pathways, Deputies Carol Nolan TD and John Clendennen TD, and Councillors Sean Maher, Peter Ormond, Audrey Hennessy Kennedy, Eleanor Clendennen, and John Leahy, Cathaoirleach of Offaly County Council, who joined in recognising the learners’ achievements and the centre’s contribution to education and training in the local community.

The next Birr FETC Open Day will take place on Wednesday, March 11 at Townsend Street, Birr.
