Tullamore GAA footballer Patrick Kenna played a prominent role in TUS Midlands historic Freshers Championship Division 1 success on Thursday night.

Club players from Tullamore and Tubber played prominent roles as TUS Midlands made history when winning the Electric Ireland Division 1 Freshers Football Championship on Thursday night.

A six-point win over DCU Dóchas Éireann (1-16 to 1-10) saw the Athlone-based third level college claim the Freshers Championship for the first time.

Tullamore corner back Patrick Kenna and Tubber wing back Adam Fox were to the fore on a night when persistent rainfall was a dominant feature in the game.

Despite the prevailing elements, TUS Midlands dominated proceedings and their six point margin of victory was just conclusion for a campaign which has seen the team claim notable wins over third level respected third level opposition on the road to final competition success.
