ODVSS to host 'In Her Shoes' domestic abuse simulation training in Tullamore

The Offaly Domestic Violence Support Service (ODVSS), in collaboration with justice and community partners, is preparing to host an interactive training event titled “In Her Shoes” next month.

The training will take place on Friday, March 20, at the District Court Offices, Tullamore, from 10am to 1pm.

"In Her Shoes” is an immersive, empathy-building exercise designed to deepen understanding of the barriers survivors face when seeking safety and support.

It will also focus on the emotional and psychological stress of navigating multiple agencies; the impact of systemic delays, financial pressures, and safety concerns; how frontline professionals can respond more effectively and compassionately; and the importance of coordinated, trauma-informed responses

The organisers say participants will gain insight into the real-life decision-making pressures experienced by survivors and explore how improved inter-agency understanding can lead to better outcomes.

Anne Clarke of ODVSS said the simulation presents a unique learning opportunity: “This experience allows professionals to step beyond policy and procedure and understand the lived reality of those seeking safety.

"When we understand the barriers survivors face, we can respond in ways that truly support safety, dignity and recovery," she stated.

Early booking is advised due to limited places. For bookings and enquiries, email supportworker@odvss.ie or phone 086 041 9154.
