Private hospital planning permission extended to 2031

The developers of a private hospital on the Wellwood campus in Tullamore have been granted a five-year extension period in which to complete the development by Offaly County Council planners.

John Flanagan Developments Ltd submitted a planning application to the Offaly local authority on December 18 last seeking to extend the timeline for the completion of the 56 in-patient bed private hospital above that already permitted in the original grant of planning permission.

The site of the proposed development is adjacent to the Ardan roundabout on the N52 bypass road and is located approximately 1.3km north east of Tullamore town centre. The site is dominated by an existing steel structure since the early 2000s when works related to a private hospital commenced but were not completed.

The developers of the private hospital project were also given the go-ahead to connect the development to the new pump station at Arden Vale which is currently under construction; to make landscaping changes to the site at the location of the approved hospital pumping station on plans, and to erect a contiguous boundary treatment, consisting of a rendered block wall with steel railings and a native hedge partition line, along the western boundary of specified properties in the Arden Vale estate.

Council planners concluded that the proposed deveopment would not seriously injury the amenities of the area, or of property in the vicinity; would not be prejudicial to public health; would not create a traffic hazard and would be in acordance with the proper planning and sustainable deveopment of the area,

One of the two conditions attached to the grant of planning permission states that the duration of the permission, and of previous permissions “shall expire on 14th December 2031.”
