Rhode Parish Historical Group to host Offaly GAA history talk

The Rhode Parish Historical Group has announced a special evening celebrating local history and sporting heritage, set to take place later this month.

The event, titled 'Towards a History of Offaly GAA – with a Rhode Slant' will take place at Scoil Mhuire Naofa on Friday, March 20, beginning at 8pm, featuring a talk by local sports journalist Kevin Corrigan.

The presentation will explore the development of Gaelic games in the county while highlighting Rhode’s own contribution to the story of Offaly GAA.

Corrigan, Sports Editor with the Midland/Tullamore Tribune, has been a prominent voice in local sports journalism since 1990. Drawing on decades of reporting and involvement in the GAA as a former club secretary and chairman, he will share insights from his extensive research into the games, players and moments that have shaped the sporting identity of the Faithful County.

The talk will also offer a preview of Corrigan’s forthcoming three-volume history of Offaly GAA. On the night, he will present a special Rhode slant, focusing on the people, teams and events from the local area that have played a part in the county’s GAA story.

Organisers say the evening will appeal to GAA supporters, local history enthusiasts and anyone interested in the traditions and community spirit that underpin GAA in Offaly.

The event is organised by the Rhode Parish Historical Group.
