Clendennen welcomes roads programme for Birr/Ferbane areas
Councillor Eleanor Clendennen has welcomed the range of road improvement works set to take place across the Birr/Ferbane Municipal District as part of this year’s roads programme, which includes a total allocation of €4.5 million for the district.
The programme includes a number of road restoration and surface dressing projects on local roads throughout the area, which is hoped will help improve road conditions and safety for residents, farmers and businesses who rely on the routes every day.
“While there is still a considerable amount of work to be done on our rural road network, it is very positive to see a strong programme of works planned for the district this year. These
improvements will make a real difference for the many people who travel these roads daily,” Cllr Clendennen said.
Councillor Clendennen paid tribute to the work of the council officials involved in progressing the programme.
“I would like to sincerely thank the Area Engineer, Brian Keenaghan, along with the team at Offaly County Council, for their continued work and commitment in progressing these projects. Their efforts ensure that important improvements are delivered efficiently across the district,” she said.
The councillor noted that a number of the projects included reflect concerns raised directly by local residents.
“I am particularly pleased to see a number of roads included in the programme for which I have made representations on behalf of local residents. It is encouraging to see those concerns now
being addressed through the works planned,” said Cllr Clendennen.
Among the projects included in the programme are road restoration works at Emmet Square in Birr, Boston Lane in Birr, Roscromroe, Longford, Church Street in Banagher, Lackaroe, Kilcolman to Irishtown, Rath to Kilcormac, and Synfield in Birr.
Surface dressing works are also scheduled for a number of routes including Rath to the Pass, the Pass to Kilcormac, Currabeg in Kinnitty, Mossfield in Clareen, and Army Hill in Moneygall.
Cllr Clendennen also welcomed progress already underway on another key local route.
“It is also great to see that works have commenced on the road from Kilcolman Church to Jackie’s Cross in Coolderry. This is a very welcome development and will help address long-standing issues in the area. I look forward to seeing further progress across the district to improve the condition and safety of our road network,” she said.
