Kilcormac gearing up for St Patrick's Day parade

Always a popular occasion in the town's social fabric, the Kilcormac St Patrick’s Day Parade, will take place on Tuesday at 3.30pm.

Departing from the Kilcormac-Killoughey GAA field on the Birr Road, this year's parade will feature community participation, creative displays and local pride in marching through the streets for the lively afternoon event.

There are a total of nine prizes on offer to parade participants, with the overall winner receiving €500. Seven perpetual trophy prizes will also be awarded to those parade entries who 'catch the eye' of the judges.

The Joe Coleman Perpetual Trophy, plus €200, will be awarded to the parade's exceptional entry, while the Leahy Family Perpetual Trophy will be awarded to the best group display in the parade.

The Anne and Jim Feighery Perpetual Trophy will be awarded to the best vintage entry, while the Marty Lynch Perpetual Trophy will go to the most original entry. A perpetual trophy is also on offer to the judges' special choice. Meanwhile, the best schools entry will receive the Mary Lee Perpetual Trophy and €150.

There will also be cash prizes of €200 and €100 to the best fancy dress in the parade.
