Clendennen hopeful of reinstating full civil registration service
Fine Gael TD for Offaly John Clendennen, has said that he is fully aware of the current disruption to the civil registration service in Tullamore and understands the frustration it is causing for couples in the county seeking to avail of the service.
Deputy Clendennen previously addressed this issue in early 2024 when a similar situation arose, which ultimately resulted in the local office reopening.
“I have been in contact with the Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill in relation to the matter. I have also received confirmation from the HSE that the office has partially reopened to facilitate birth and death registrations but unfortunately has been unable to provide a marriage registration service in Offaly since the reopening in January 2024.
“I have also been advised that the Tullamore office is temporarily closed until Thursday, March 19, during which time the HSE’s call centre will respond to phone queries and assist with issuing of certificates.
“This situation is far from ideal and not only affects those couples looking to avail of the service but local businesses too.”
The Deputy has been informed that the HSE are actively seeking to progress recruitment through temporary staffing and agency arrangements with the aim of reinstating the full civil registration service in Tullamore at the earliest opportunity.
“Having a situation where couples have to travel to neighbouring counties for the service is unacceptable and I will continue to engage with the relevant stakeholders to ensure the service resumes as soon as possible,” concluded Clendennen.
